When you choose an action, you choose the consequences of that action....When you desire a consequence, you had damned well better take the action that would create it.

Ellen Steiner remembered on Earth Day 2006

The southwest Reno park recently named for Ellen Steiner was the site of a memorial service and park dedication for the late open space advocate on Sunday, April 23. Between 75 and 100 people braved a rainy, blustery day to honor a true champion of the environment.

South Hills Park to be re-dedicated as "Ellen's Park" in April 23 Ceremony

To: All South Hills neighbors and friends of Ellen Steiner

There will be a memorial service and ceremony to dedicate "Ellen's Park" (formerly South Hills Park) in honor of Ellen Steiner on Sunday, April 23rd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Washoe County Commissioner Dave Humke will read the resolution to re-dedicate the park and the Reverend John Steinfeld will conduct the memorial service. A barbeque will follow. People will have an opportunity to share remembrances of Ellen if they so wish toward the end of the service.

The meat, drinks, dessert, plates, etc., will be provided. Should people wish to bring a pot luck dish (e.g., casserole or salad) it will be appreciated. As seating is limited, we ask that you please bring your own folding chairs or blanket. The barbecue will include hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken & pork.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend and let us know your meat or veggie preference.  We would like to know in order to make sure that we have plenty of the type of barbecue that people would like.  Please call Elaine Steiner at (775) 853-4059 to leave a message or get answers to your questions.

We hope you will be able to attend and join in a celebration to honor the life of a truly remarkable woman.
