Re: Ballardini Ranch Funding Report No. 2
Dear Chair Martini and Members of the Regional Planning Governing Board:
This is a follow-up to my letter identified as Funding Report No. 1 on May 22, 2002, regarding the status of funding for the Ballardini Ranch.
This morning, Thursday, May 23, 2002, I had a telephone conference with Michael Dwyer, Manager of the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) regarding the Ballardini Ranch and the status of timing and funding for the ranch. The contact information for Mr. Dwyer is as follows:
Michael Dwyer, Manager
Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act
Bureau of Land Management
4701 North Torrey Pines Drive
Las Vegas, NV 89130
Telephone: (702) 515-5044
Fax: (702) 515-5023
As my recent Funding Report No. 1 mentioned, the Executive Committee of SNPLMA approved Ballardini Ranch and a number of other properties for nomination to the Secretary of the Interior for full funding. The nomination made on Tuesday was what is known as "Round 3," namely, the third round of properties identified as "sensitive lands" for purchase under SNPLMA. The Secretary of the Interior approved both Rounds 1 and 2 without modification of the recommendations from the Executive Committee of SNPLMA.
According to Mr. Dwyer, with respect to Round 1, Secretary Babbitt approved the first round in approximately one month. According to Mr. Dwyer, with respect to Round 2, Secretary Norton approved the second round in approximately two months. He would therefore anticipate that Secretary Norton would make a decision on Round 3 by the third week of July 2002, or perhaps as early as the latter part of June 2002.
With respect to the sale of public properties that were to be sold by auction last week, and which have been postponed, Mr. Dwyer anticipates the sale date for those properties will be rescheduled for the latter part of June, or the first part of July. In addition, the properties scheduled for sale by auction for November 2002 are still scheduled to be sold at that time. According to Mr. Dwyer, there will be more than enough funding from the sale of those properties, including existing funding, to fully fund all properties included in Round 3, including the Ballardini Ranch.
Sincerely,
Steven T. Walther
